kids from the muslims i know

ten years ago my first documentary, The Muslims I Know, came out. i interviewed a group of vibrant young people and talked to them about their roots, what it meant to be the children of immigrants, and how their muslim/hybrid identities played out in mainstream america. many audiences have told me that the voices of these young people have added an important layer of smart, insightful and funny to the film. i am very proud of each and everyone of them and how they’ve grown and blossomed and been able to own their space in the world. all of them are now settled, two of them have children. this is a picture of the latest wedding which happened in rochester this year.
