The ruins of Moenjodaro, an archeological site of the Indus Valley Civilisation, is one of the largest and old city settlements of the Indus Valley of South Asia built around 2600 BC. It is one of the world’s few sites that United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has designated as ‘world heritage’. The NHA (Pakistan’s National Highway Authority) in order to extend the road leading to Moenjodaro airport has appropriated about 300,000 sq ft of archaeological land which obviously will frustrate further excavations of the site, almost permanently. Moreover, the incessant movement of traffic will shift toward the proximity of the main site which obviously will cause irreparable harm to the main structure. Full article.
