Amna Mawaz Khan is one of the few classical dancers in Pakistan who specializes in Bharatanatyam. She is also an activist and part of the Awami Workers Party, a left-wing political party in Pakistan. The party’s mission is to bring together the disparate struggles of workers, subsistence farmers, students, women, and ethnic and religious minorities under the banner of a genuinely democratic and socialist politics. She formed Laal Hartaal (Red Strike), the arts and culture arm of the AWP. Here she is performing on the beach in Karachi.
