Politicians as “humans”

From Yasmin Nair: I don’t need to talk to [Hillary Clinton’s] friends and colleagues to know whether or not she will be a good President: I just need to examine the public life she has conducted for over 50 years as she made very deliberate choices and struck very particular pacts in order to gain power and money. The fact that Obama eats precisely seven almonds every night or that he is, demonstrably, an excellent father and a clearly brilliant man does not blind me to his terrible policies, especially in foreign affairs. I don’t need to know my politicians as “humans,” whatever that means in an era where candidates manufacture and massage every single piece of their personal lives. I just need to know how they act as politicians.
