Art Exhibition: Savi Sawarkar

“Savi Sawarkar, a well known Ambedkarite-Buddhist artist, has carried the struggle against casteist values right into the citadel of modern art. He has evolved his own visual idioms distinct from traditional, modernist and post-modernist idioms of elite aesthetics practices. His keen sense of bodily existence is markedly different from the cultivated sensuality of high or pop art. His figures are contorted and skewed by the brutal facts of casteist exploitation, as well as Buddhist values of liberation. Unlike the figures and objects of popular art, his figures and objects are not watching being watched. They are figures traumatised by pain.” More here.
