The resistance of ordinary people

Khury PS: Even for people who believe in social justice, the notion that ordinary, oppressed people are capable of imagining a more just reality and fighting for it can feel unrealistic. Conventional wisdom says that we have to accept the least worst policies of the people in power.

But look at what’s happening. In the US right now, the struggle for a better world is being led by indigenous people and prison inmates–two of the most oppressed and marginalized populations in a country that specializes in oppressing and marginalizing people. They are overcoming tremendous odds and barriers, discussing alternative visions, and standing up in the face of incredible violence. And they’re disrupting business as usual in the process. Their resistance itself is already a victory.
The other source of freedom fighters at the moment is the NFL.

So yes, I am continually inspired by the resistance of ordinary people and affirmed in the belief that we are capable of coming together to free ourselves.
