an extremely intelligent conversation about islamophobia and how much of the left (with its calcified eurocentric views) just doesn’t get it, about the war on terror and its domestic implications and how the harassment and criminalization of muslims was ramped up after 2008 (when obama was elected), about the infiltration of communities and activist organizations, about entrapment and its focus on marginalized and many times mentally challenged muslim men (there was a textbook case of such entrapment right here in rochester), about special registration programs and massive deportations, about how the media play an important role in perpetuating stereotypes and a culture of fear, about the islamophobia industry and its deep connections to zionism (e.g. AIPAC and the clarion project), about the need to understand domestic oppression in the context of international violence and strategy, and finally the overlaps between various movements for social justice and the necessity to put solidarity to work. this discussion is followed by a report about chicago teachers organizing for education justice and against teaching apartheid. it’s all connected.
