Jesse Freeston: Two weeks since Berta Cáceres was murdered, the world’s outrage reaching heights not imagined (but more than worthy).
Corporations, governments and international organizations around the world are being pressured to describe and justify their relationship with the Honduran oligarchy and the government that oligarchy installed through a coup d’état. All this happening and still in the past two days we’ve seen the regime step up its attack on Honduran land defenders:
– Nelson Garcia murdered in his home. Nelson was a member of Berta’s organization, COPINH, involved in the reclamation of Lenca land.
– Nelson was killed as part of the violent eviction by police and military of 150 families participating in the reclamation of the community of Rio Chiquito.
– Members of MUCA, the campesino organization featured in Resistencia The Film, arrested in their homes at 5:30am yesterday.
It is long-past time for the world to take up the demand of the Honduran resistance to boycott this regime, stop sending them weapons, training, money and stop doing business with them. Keep an eye on bertacaceres.org for info, analysis and action…
