Hamid Dabashi: I just wish someone in a position of power and authority like President Obama would be as concerned and get as emotional about gun violence and civilian casualties in Yemen when he sells the Saudis billions of dollars of weapons to wage random wars, or about innocent Palestinian men, women and children when he ships even more sophisticated killing machines to Israel – I wish all these fictive frontiers between East and West, us and them, Arabs and Iranians, Jews and Gentiles, Muslims and non-Muslims, Hindus and Muslims, white and black, men and women, straight and gay . . . disappear and melt into the thin sand so someone could care and see the life of a child in Yemen, in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, in Iraq, in Iran, in Syria, in Palestine, in Kurdistan, in Mexico . . . is as precious as the life of any other in Paris, London, New York or San Bernardino – I wish . . .
