From Amber Hammad’s Mona Lisa series of digital prints

Here is Amber Hammad’s “reworking of Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, a painting that needs no introduction. A photograph of the artist herself replaces Da Vinci’s enigmatic sitter. Gone is the sfumato, the incandescent gold. The tints of a neon age light up this Mona Lisa’s face and hands. And, to further drive the deviation home, the word ‘Allah’ hangs in miniature Arabic from a gold chain around her neck.” (Abbas Rizvi)
